Students have been learning all about 2D shapes and that 2D shapes can be flipped, turned and slid into spaces to make other shapes. We have neem using a special 2D shape collection, called tangrams, that is a set of 7 shapes to create different challenges this week. This has really got our brains thinking and creating problem solving while perservering on some challenging tasks. We have really enjoyed building with these. Next, we will start to use 2D shapes as faces (sides) on 3D shapes!

Author Visit
Today we weclomed Casey Lyall, a local writer, to our school for a little writing workshop! Casey lives in Southwestern Ontario and has written several humourous books for kids. She also works at a library so she loves being surrounded by all the wonderful stories.
With our time with Casey, together with the Kindergarten B class, we chatted about the parts of a good story and then together, we created an adventure for a character we created, name Puppy! Puppy likes adventure, to play and is very curious. So we created an adventure for Puppy to go find a polar bear, named Thunder. Oh what fun these two characters can get into. We have some very creative students! Their imaginations are ready to create their own little stories!
Thanks to the School Council for coordinating this vist through the Parent Reaching Out grant.Monday, May 6, 2024

This is our May calendar of events for Grade 1! Although we can send home a paper copy, this blog has the most up to date information! Check out the blog calendar regularly for upcoming dates and information or the Homework & Reminders page.

And some great songs and videos we watched about honesty are:
