Easter Egg Hunt for the United Way!

We are so excited to say that our Easter Egg Hunt for the United Way was a great success!! 

We made the treat bags for all the participants, prepared posters to advertise in the school and created announcements to share. The students were so excited to help hide the eggs, pass out treats and go on our own hunt as well. 

Donations rolled in and helped us reach over our goal. We raised over $260 for the United Way! 

A BIG thank you to the volunteers, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. Paxton and Mrs. Folkes that volunteered to help run the event! 

We might have a small school but we have really BIG hearts!

March Estimate Jar

We were so excited to get to do our Estimate Jar for March to wrap up our month a day early since tomorrow we have our Easter Egg Hunt!

Each student wrote down their estimate on their white board of how many chocolate gold coins were in the jar. 

We decided today we would count by 2's because we know counting by ones takes us a long time! 

Then for the big moment...we all took a turn going around the class and sharing our estimate. We compared numbers and how far away our estimate was from the actual total we had of the chocolate gold coins.

Elena was our lucky winner!!! She was bang on the number of 26 treats we had in total! She knew our tradition is to share the treats with everyone in class and students may have brought home their treats (if they didn't eat them out of their lunch today)! Elena also got to take over the leftovers! Score!

Easter Egg Hunt Preparations!

This week, the Grade 1 Busy Bees started preparing for the school Easter Egg Hunt. We are raising money for the United Way! We have made our posters to put up around the school and created our announcements to read next week. We made the treat bags for all the participants today! Donations are starting to come in to help reach our goal! We are so excited for our special event! 

Optimism - Finding the Good!

So far in March, we have been learning all about optimism as our character trait of the month. We have read books, poems and watched videos all about this concept to help us understand what this big idea means. We brainstormed all the ideas we have been learning about and have posted in our classroom:

We are working hard on focusing on making the choice to find the good. It is easy to pick out the bad and dwell on it, but we are training our brains to find the silver lining more. Help us practice and we can show you our new skills!

PJ Day!
